MY VISITS:

VISIT 1: Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Leatherhead 4/4/17

FIRST VISIT TO DULWICH HAMLET:

Dulwich Hamlet 1-1 Leatherhead
Tuesday 4th April 2017
Isthmian League

My first visit to Champion Hill came about whilst checking the fixtures on Soccerway, I noticed this game was on and it wasn't too far for me to get to either. Another choice would have been Merstham vs Leiston in the same league as Dulwich. Other choices were in the Premier League or Championship localish ones but I decided with Dulwich and more than likely off to Merstham next week for their game against none other than Dulwich Hamlet haha. Anyway I was looking forward to this one as I heard good things about the ground, especially a few people on Twitter, plus another groundhopper who I enjoy watching his videos has been to Dulwich so was looking forward to it. Plus with Dulwich currently having 3 ex Gills players under their books in Gavin Tomlin, Ashley Carew and Jacob Erskine, would have been good to see them play. And of course well known current Leatherhead manager Jimmy Bullard in charge, I did see him at Tonbridge a while back when I went to Tonbridge vs Leatherhead in a thrilling 4-4 draw, I do think he is a top bloke and doesn't fail to make me laugh.

East Dulwich, the nearest Train Station to Champion Hill. About a 5 minute walk to the ground.

So, onto my journey to Dulwich, I left home shortly after half 5 and arrived into London Bridge about 6.20pm. After grabbing a bite to eat at London Bridge, I left London Bridge around quarter to 7 and arrived into East Dulwich shortly after 7. Got to the ground not long afterwards. £10 admission and £2 for a programme, not a bad price really. I was quite impressed with the ground, plenty of room and a decent view of the pitch. Dulwich started with Ashley Carew an ex Gills youngster up front, so was quite eager to see how he played. I never saw him playing for Gillingham so would have been interesting to see how he played now that time has past. I thought he looked quite good up front, got a bit of pace on him, quite strong at times and done some good passes. The game itself, probably a draw was fair, although if 1 team looked like to have got all 3 points, probably Dulwich I'd say. A good decent side they've got I think. Heads went down though when Leatherhead took the lead from a mistake which Leatherhead's Nana Boakye-Yiadom put the visitors in front by slotting it into the corner. Dulwich's equaliser came from a terrific volley by Ibrahim Kargbo which the keeper didn't have chance to get, a volley which hit the bar and in. A terrific goal in all fairness. A 1-1 draw it finished, which saw Dulwich move up a place on goal difference above Tonbridge my local side. Not been a bad night in all fairness, after checking the results afterwards, only to realise I finally won an accumulator, my 1st of the season, a 6 fold with a fiver on returning me £60 so not bad. Better than nothing. Only annoying thing at the end of the night, I was meant to get home about 11, but ended up getting home about 12.15am due to the trains being late, but ah well. Overall a good night in Dulwich.
